The story
We have a home video of my son at six, riding a laundry basket down the stairs while his mom and I laughed from the bottom. By the fourth run he had a helmet on. He was scared, and he went anyway.

Laundry basket at the top of the stairs Six years old, no helmet, didn't care He'd already gone down once before I hit record Looked in the camera like he'd won something Her and me at the bottom, both filming She says, do it again He says, okay! (okay!) Do it again (do it again) Counting the steps out loud, one through five Picking how brave he's gonna be this time Fearless at the top, grinning ear to ear Do it again Move out the way, he warns his mother 'Cause I'm gonna go, then sits down way too soon Right on his backside on the step (ouch) Stands up in the basket, gives us that smile Then plops down and he's gone (Wee) all the way down Like a rollercoaster, like the best day of his life Do it again (do it again) We're laughing so hard, he laughs too And that just sends him climbing back up higher You're like Spider-Man, I tell him He rolls his eyes, he grins Do it again Take after take, he tips over, hits the floor Says he hurt his knee, then climbs back up for more And I'm coaching him like it's a sport Stay straight, son, don't lean, that's why you tip He's nodding like he's really listening Do it again (do it again) Fifth step, then the seventh, is this the seventh? Better take it fast, he says, before I fall It goes too fast, you know Yeah, buddy, I know Do it again Four clips in and the fun's worn thin Helmet on now, chin strap snapped Inches to the edge, pouty lip, and he says it I think this is gonna be fun Saddest little voice you ever heard Scared of the very thing he can't wait to do Won't quit, won't come down, just needs a second That was you That's still you So do it again (do it again) Down he comes and tumbles out at the bottom (waah) Flat on the floor and already laughing I want to see it, he says Do it again Somewhere in there I said, if anybody sees this They're gonna think we're the worst parents alive Then she says it, my mom and dad are gonna kill me Hell, they will And you? You just wanted to go again Do it again (do it again)
